FAQ

What wig style would suit you best?

When choosing a wig you should consider which styles you like as well as your lifestyle.

Here are some tips to help you find the most flattering wig/hair style to suit your face shape.

The oval face is considered to be the ideal shape by hairdressers. People with an oval face shape can wear most hair/wig styles and lengths with it still looking "right". The oval face is mathematically 1.5 times as long as its width, with the forehead slightly wider than the jaw.

Round faces are characterised by a round chin. Because they lack the length of the oval face, the hair/wig should be cut to create the illusion of length in the face. This is achieved by creating height on top of the head, and minimising hair width by keeping it flat at the sides and around the ears.

Rectangular faces have a square chin and hairline, and are long and narrow. The ideal style of hair/wig is one which creates width at the sides disguising the narrowness. A fringe can also shorten the face, and a style with a side part will help to reduce the square appearance.

Pear shaped faces have a narrow forehead and are widest at the jawline, with a round chin. The objective of a suitable style of hair/wig is to give the illusion of an oval face by creating width at the forehead and temples.

Heart shaped faces are widest at the temples and narrowest at the jawline. Usually the chin is small and delicate. The hair/wig style's objective should be to create an oval by adding width at the jawline.

Diamond shaped faces are widest at the cheekbones and narrow in the forehead and chin. By creating width at the forehead and minimising it at the cheekbones, the illusion of an oval face can be achieved.

Square faces have a square jawline and hairline at the forehead. They are 'too short', so a suitable hair/wig style seeks to create height elongating the face. Hair should be layered around the face to soften the jawline. Jaw and brow nearly same width. Hair/wig should wisp around face to reduce squareness.

What size are your wigs?

All of my wigs are average size.
This means 21'' or 53cm.
There is an adjustment on the nape to tighten or loosen the wig. They can adjust up to 23'' or 58cm.
Wig size means the circumferance of your head which is measured.
Many people like to wear the wig looser than normal so that it feels more comfortable.
The wigs have adjustment hooks to make them tighter and secure on your head. The wig will feel secure and snug on most heads without anything extra.
If you are worried (in the unlikely event) that it may move about on your head then Flexi clips or Toupee clips can be sewn in.

Or if there is no hair on the head to clip on to, toupee tape can secure the piece. It's like double sided sticky tape. You can buy it on Ebay but sorry I don't supply it. You could also use similar tape from any Stationery shop.
There are 3 sizes of wigs: Large, Average, Petite. All quality wigs are adjustable, so average is a size that will fit virtually everyone. Therefore you will find that this is the size that most wig suppliers offer as it will fit anyone unless they have an unusually large or small head.

Are there men and woman's sizes?

Men and women's heads to not differ much. Many women have larger heads than men. So gender is not really an issue.
The wigs are adjustable and are meant to fit snugly. Many men buy my wigs and they are as comfortable and confident wearing them as my female clients.

How do I put on a wig?

It's very easy to put on a wig.
It's best when you use a wig cap, which is like a nylon stocking that holds all your own hair neatly together. Even if you have no hair you will find that a wig cap is a usefull item as it prevents the wig from contact with sweat or moisture from your head. This means that it stays fresher and you can wash it less often. It also extends the longevity of your wig.

I have long hair. Can I fit it under a wig?

If your hair is short, the wig will just fit over it and you can tuck in anything that may stick out.
If your hair is long, it is best to use a wig cap so that you can fit all your hair in without a lump. Even big, long, curly, frizzy or wiry hair can flatten down enough to wear a very short wig but it will feel quite snug.
It's probably best to go for the big wigs with that type of hair, especially if you have big head too.
When you put the wig on it should fit snugly, with the bottom of the wig all the way down to the nape of your neck, and the front of the wig up to your front hairline, a bit like a swim cap.
If it's too loose or two tight, take the wig off, adjust the tabs at the nape, and try it on again. The wig will need to be lightly brushed or "finger combed" into place once it is on you head.
You may secure the wig to your own hair with bobbie pins. Or if you do not have hair, you may used toupee tape.

Do the wigs come styled like in the picture. Do I have to style them?

The pictures you see are taken with my mannequin. The wigs are taken from the package, given a shake, placed on it's head and finger combed into place with minimal effort.
They are already styled. You are buying the exact same style of wig that you see in the picture. Even after you wash the wig it should keep it's style. They are made from Kanekalon fiber which is meant to ''remember'' it's shape even after washing.
You don't need to style it just finger comb or lightly brush it.
Obviously we don't all look like this mannequin so the wig might look a bit different on everyone but otherwise what you see is what you get.
Please note that if your head is larger than average then the wig may appear slightly shorter on your head than it does on the mannequin. Bigger head bigger brain, more clever.

Can bangs be cut on this wig? Can I cut the wig shorter?

You can cut bangs on most of the wigs unless they are styled to go away from the face.
You can cut most of the wigs shorter without a problem. Sometimes cutting bluntly with scissors will cause a "choppy look" on the ends. I suggest clipping the tips of the hair (once you have cut it to the length you desire) with thinning shears to soften.

Are these costume wigs or can they be worn for everyday wear?

My wigs are top quality wigs. Most of my clients wear them for the everyday convienience that wigs offer.
Some for health reasons and many others just for a quick change of style.
However lot's of my clients buy them to wear to parties.
They can certainly be worn for everyday wear.

Where do these wigs come from?

My wigs are imported from the USA. My supplier has been in the wig buisiness for over 25 years. They have developed an outstanding range of top quality wigs for the very demanding US market. They are at the cutting edge of wig design development and are always up to date with the latest styles.
I have worked with a number of wig suppliers in China but I gave up because they could not supply me with the quality of wigs that I get from my US supplier (even though they have their own factory in China too).
I did a lot of research into this and I'm confident that I've got the best quality and styles of wigs in this price range.
I could buy wigs directly from China and make more profit but I'm really not interested in selling anything but the best.
I know that there are slightly cheaper wigs on Ebay but you know you get what you pay for.
Would you not pay £5 more to buy the quality that you really want or pay £5 less for....something sadly less than what you expected.
My return policy is also easier than any of my Ebay competitors.
My Ebay shop offers clients much more than they expect. Purchasing a wig is a very personal and even an emotional experience. I wish to to make it as easy and comfortable as possible for my clients.
I'm also developing my own premium brand in collaboration with my US supplier called Demira Design which I'll be launching Internationally soon.

How long does a wig last for?

A wig can last anything from a few months to several years. It depends on how often you use it and how you take care of it.
It's just like clothes or shoes.
One of my clients recently purchased 3 of the same wig so that she can rotate them and keep them looking like new.
I recommend placing your wigs on wigstands to keep them looking good, also try to keep them dust free.
If you wear the same wig daily it will last 3-6 months.
It's still lasts a lot longer than getting your hair styled in a Salon and it's a fraction of the price.

What is better: Human hair or Synthetic?

Human hair is much harder to maintain than synthetic. It has to be restyled after each wash. It's just like real hair. You might even need to take your Human hair wig to a salon for restyling. Expensive.
Synthetic hair keeps it's style even after washing. Especially the ones which I sell. They are KaneKalon fiber and are said to remember their style even after washing. They do too.
It's also just as soft as human hair and can even look more natural.
Most people cannot tell the difference.
Sometimes the color of a piece will make it look more or less real.
My wigs are wash and wear. You can comb them into place or use hairspray, but you should not use any heat on synthetic hair as you might melt the fiber. So Don't use a Hair Dryer Please.

Does human hair look more realistic? What makes one wig look more real than another?

Human hair wigs don't actualy look more real than synthetic ones.
In fact, some synthetic wigs can look much more real and natural than human hair wigs.
Some colours or styles can look more or less real than others, just like with real hair.
Sometimes you see a girl who has coloured her hair green or red. It's still real but it doesn't look natural. So I would say colour has a lot to do with it.
Also you need to choose a wig that suits you. Whether your're buying clothes, sunglasses or hair you need to make sure it suits you. So choose carefully.
I'm working on a solution to this. Watch this space.

Will wearing a wig ruin my hair? Can my natural hair still grow if I'm wearing a wig?

If you are planning to wear a wig every day for 12-14 hours and for many months on end then this may cause some change to you natural hair or scalp. This is due to the friction of the wig against your hair and skin, which you may not even notice.
Wearing a wig cap will help to remedy this as it protects your hair and scalp from any friction that may occur.
Always try to give your head and hair a break when you can and let it breath. Take the wig off when you're home. It's easy to put on again.
If you're going to wear the wig for most of the time then massaging and moisturising your hair and scalp regularly will help to avoid problems. Massaging or brushing of your hair and scalp for 10-15 minutes a day (while watching TV for example) will help with circulation and prevent pores becoming clogged and keep your hair follicles healthy
Wearing a wig will not prevent your natural hair from growing normally.
Lace front wigs which need to be glued on to the head are the most damaging as they are stuck to the head, somtimes for months on end. Can you imagine that top celebrities like Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Naomi Cambell and Tyra Banks have to continuously undergo that ordeal.
My wigs are easy wear and I'm convinced that they are the best choice for anyone who wants to wear alternative hair.

What is a banana clip, a claw clip, Jaw clip and a French comb?

These are a types of combs and clips that fit onto your own hair to hold on a hair piece. They hold best if you have enough hair to get into a ponytail, and then secure the teeth underneath the rubberband next to your head.
